Durston Aluminium Casting Frame, For Sand Casting

Description

This Durston Aluminium Casting Frame is suitable for a wide range of casting jobs.

With a generous 94mm x 44mm internal size and a 20mm pour hole, it features interlocking sections which gives results whilst casting.

To use;

• Separate the two halves of the frame (or flask).
• Fill the one half with (slightly damp) sand or delft clay () and pat it down with fingers and then tap with a hammer.
• Scrape off any excess to leave you with a flat surface, and push your pattern in to the sand/clay half way.
• Then it is recommended to apply a powder to help the two halves not to stick together and blow off any excess.
• Add the other half of the flask back on top and fill in the other side with sand/clay, again pack down and compact it around the pattern, tap with hammer and smooth off.
• Open the flask up to reveal the two halves and check they are complete.
• Next, create a channel for the molten metal to flow into your pattern.
• Gently pull out the pattern lifting it straight out and checking for any spots that may collapse and fix with fingers.
• Add feed lines to each corner of the pattern (on one side) for the air to flow, you could also poke a few holes all the way through to let air escape (important for detailed pieces).
• Fix both parts back together and secure the frame.
• You are then ready to pour molten metal.
• Once cooled, carefully open and remove the sand to reveal your casting pattern.

Protective clothing such as gloves and goggles should be worn during this process.
