This 518SP hammer handpiece is an excellent tool for more delicate jewellery work, operating at speeds of 2,000 to 20,000rpm. Its short, softer up-and-down motion allows for effective finishing on lighter more detailed work.

The 518 series of handpieces come in 3 different stroke strengths:

• 518C: is the most powerful
• 518SP: is a medium strength ()
• 518USP: is the slowest strength

However, you can also reduce these strokes further by adding the Reduction Gear Nano – 400 (), which reduces speed by 1/4 (500 – 3,125 rpm) meaning if you were to add this to your 518SP handpiece it would become exactly the same as a 528 series with a much slower stroke, creating a hit by hit motion, easier to use when working on more delicate pieces.

This particular handpiece has 4 levels of stroke, you can adjust the speed of the stroke by twisting the second silver section which has a + and – to indicate which way to twist.

The handpiece is supplied with a 4mm round unhardened mandrel that can be formed as you wish, it also has an automatic ejection system for broken tips (for Badeco tips only). For more Badeco mandrels see Badeco Hardened Silver Steel Tips in a set of 9 ().

All the handpieces are very easy to use:

• Twist the silver part of the handpiece to release the mandrel or tool you’re using
• Unscrew the tool and replace it with your new tool or mandrel
• Twist the silver part again to tighten and secure the new tool in place

It is supplied with a pin and spanner to tighten or loosen further.

When unscrewed, you will observe that this filer handpiece is straight and does not have a widened skirt, allowing it to attach to a nanomotor. In contrast, the strong micromotor handpieces do have this feature, clearly indicating which handpieces are compatible with each motor. These handpieces are not interchangeable.

The collar of each handpiece also has its name engraved to make it easier to identify which tool you are using.
