Description

Draw tongs are specialized tongs used in jewellery making, primarily for handling and pulling wire through drawplate during the wire drawing process. They are ideal to securely grip and control wire.

How to use draw tongs:

• Preparing the wire – Make sure the wire is annealed and lubricated before drawing it.
• Pulling the wire – Once the wire is inserted into the hole of the drawplate, use draw tongs to hold onto the wire and pull it thought. This process is done gradually, moving thought progressively smaller holes until you achieve your desired size or shape.
• Preventing damage – draw tongs provide an important advantage over regular pliers or bare hands. They ensure a strong, stable grip on the wire without damaging it.
• Safety and control – when drawing wire, especially when wire is annealed and lubricated, the wire can become slippery or difficult to handle. The draw tongs give the jeweller better leverage and control during the wire drawing process especially for longer lengths of wire.
